So this is how it goes....
I have read all these fabulous US post's about getting bacon that is paleo friendly. Unfortunately, living in Perth we don't have the demand for producers to provide paleo friendly products like bacon. In many cases I have to buy my almond meal in 400g packets. Bulk buying is not that much cheaper. Maybe I am not looking in the right places. I really don't have the time to go searching for great stockists of things that I need for the food we cook. So I stumble.
Well yesterday while Man and I were looking for different places to buy our groceries we stumbled across an organic/free range butcher who stocks...... nitrate free bacon. There are no numbers on the packet at all. The bacon itself is a Mondo's https://www.mondo.net.au/wholesale/supplies.php product and is cured in salt and sugar. While I could do without the sugar part of the curing process I am happy to endure this rather than purchase the bacon from other retailers with a litany of chemical numbers on their ingredient panel.
The butcher is http://www.prontogourmet.com.au/ (Pronto Gourmet Butchers) in Mosman Park. The butcher also let us try some of the Mondo's ham, similarly cured. OMG YUM!!!!! The only draw back is that these products are twice the price of non numbered bacon and ham. I can deal with that. The taste is superior to other products also.
The meat looks beautiful in this butcher shop. I will be going again.
If you pop in tell them that the Urban Cave Girl sent you.
Happy Hunting and Gathering.

Please read and share
Hi All
I have just read a blog by PaleoHacks. As there is no point repeating what has already been said I am re-posting: I would also like to say look the guy up.
The views of this particular blog post that you will read reflect how myself and Man view the paleo lifestyle. It makes us feel good. We have more energy. We are more alert. We sleep better. We engage with the world in a more positive way. This could be because we are consciously doing something positive for ourselves, a kind of placebo effect,or it could be what we are eating or a combination. We don't really analyse it too much. We both know this works for us.
Personally I am also noticing what my emotional "go to's" are. They come in the form of Carbs and Vino oh and SUGAR. I would not have known this had I not eliminated them from my diet.
We are not fundamentalist about our approach. However we are excited and happy to share our experience as we want to share the Paleo Love!
So give this a read. Let me know what you think about it.
More to come.
Much thanks to Paleohacks. Love your work

Well It's Been A While
Although I haven't blogged for a while I have been out a number of times since the last blogfest.
I went to a philosophy do at a place called The Corner Room in South Fremantle. Although the event was a shambles the food L & I ordered was fabulous. It's a not too expensive place for a bite and even though the staff were run of their feet they were delightful and helpful.
L & I ordered the same thing. Frenched Lamb Cutlets that originially came with a breaded crust. We asked if we could have ours without the crust and no side grain but extra salad and they obliged with a smile. This is what we love to see. We would more than likely go there again.
